This makes my heart happy and puts a smile on my face.
Living in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley And learning to go back to some of the old ways of living off the land like I did as a kid.

Chicks part 2
The chicks are growing so fast they had to get moved in to my feed shed and a bigger brooder. I think I was up and down all night going out to check on them their first night. And to make shore the heat lamp was keeping them warm enough. They are loving the extra room in their new brooder and as soon as they feather out a bit more, we can have a whole day out in the yard together sitting in the sun. I think they would enjoy playing in the garden with me. :-)

How I do Fried Green Beans
I have had a few friends on FaceBook ask how do I make my fried green beans. So tonight as I got everything ready. I thought I would take photos to do a blog post to share with you on how mine are done. I hope it will help you give them a try. And let me know how they came out. We love them so much that they are on our dinner table 2 or 3 times a week.
Here are the ingredients and I cook them in a skillet.
Green beans, bacon grease, salt, pepper, Mrs Dash and butter.
I really can't tell you what amounts I use. I have never measured or, a pinch or dash is how I do it . I know how much we like of each ingredient we like so that is how I cook.
This is a good way to get some extra good taste to store bought green beans also if you don't can your own.

I sometimes will use a bit of diced onion and add it to the dab of bacon grease. |
And sometimes a small pinch of granulated garlic. |

Chicks
I didn't think I was going to have or do chicks this year. But on the way to work a couple weeks ago T. said he thought I mite need more chickens and that I should get 6 to 8 chicks so I would have eggs this winter. So I am hand raising 8 chicks for the first time, now that I have no broody hen to do it. The hens I had as broodies last year went back to their mom a few months ago because she was going to get new chicks and need the girls to raise them. We both got fooled no broody hen for ether 1 of us. So we both will be hand raising our chicks. Old saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" comes to mind for us both this time because we need a broody hen. :-) So there are 8 baby chicks in my dining room and I am loving it so far.
I will update photos of the girls as they get older. I am thinking they were a few days old when I got them. They are Red Sex Links and I got them from our local Tractor Supply Company.
