Lifes Ups Downs
Thought it was time I did a update.
So much has happen sense my last post.
I haven't been up to posting or getting on to Facebook much lately.
T's son & his wife just gave us a new grand-daughter on Sept. 26 and her name is Raven.
So that makes 4 grand- sons and 5 grand- daughters for us now.
The son that just had the baby has been in and out the hospital with pneumonia. He said he seems to be doing better now.
Then my son lost his real dad on Oct 13 and has had a hard time with it.
His dad didn't leave a Will that they could find or know of.
So he is trying to take care of everything now for his 1/2 sisters and himself.
Things are ok on the farm but our regaler work hasn't been doing very well.
So I haven't been able to decide if I'm up or down most days.
I've also had to start sending some of my chickens to freezer camp.
I can't afford to feed them all now that money is so tight for us, and prices for feed have got up so much more.
I really hate butchering day, I end up with a very down afterwards.
But know it has to be done, and that later they will be a few meals to feed us.
Right now I'm doing the roosters and 5 very mean hens who are just crazy.
I have 2 hens that will be here until they are gone from old age.
Lucky & Sunny are good brood hens and once they go broody for a week or 2,
I can put new chicks under them come spring time and they will raise them.
They are so sweet and my special girls.
Well I guess this is it for my update.
Thank you for stopping in for a little visit with us.

Chicks and kittens
Mama chicken Sweetie and her 3 chicks are now enjoying the outside in their own little coop and pen until they can be let out with the big girls in a few weeks. They are getting so big at 2 weeks and 2 days old. And their mama don't want any one or any thing near them, I am hoping they all turn out to be hens.
Over the past weekend 2 kittens came inside to learn to be inside house cats. We ended up keeping the black kitten and not the 1 we first picked out. Every time we went out to the shed to water & feed mama kitty & the kittens the black one was first to greet us and follow us around. I think he picked us. The little gray girl is going to live with a friend in a few weeks, until then she will be hanging out with her brother and us. It has been interesting with kittens in the house, they are into everything and learn they are not aloud to climb up our legs. Little claws are sharp. Ouch !!!

A little of & a little of that.
The kittens are getting bigger and are playing more now that their eyes are open. I am hoping to find a home for the mama and last 2 kittens. We are keeping a male kitten and a friend is taking 1.
For Mother's day I got a Touch Kindle reader and I am loving it. Thank you my sweetie's T., Pippi and Mike.
And 2 very sweet friends gave me a set of lamps and a set of creamer and sugar bowl. Thank you Danny & Karen, Mrs Carolyn & Paul.
I also got a surprise this morning my mama hen hatched out 3 chicks from the 4 eggs she had under her. She left the nest this afternoon so I am guessing the last egg is bad. I think her and I are very happy with 3 chicks. My flock now has 27 chickens. And that is more then enough for me.
I have picked the peas and carrots from our garden and they have been dried and put up for winter stews. And I got a few more pints of chicken stock canned and got 3 pints of jam from my strawberry bed so far and I think I may have enough in the freezer now to make more jam.
We have been really busy the past month here working on the garden and keeping our yard mowed. The teenage hens got moved in with the big girls now and I am hoping they will soon start laying eggs. All these babies have been keeping me on my toes. I am loving every minute of it. I think when my head hits the pillow at night I'm a sleep before I even close my eyes. Thank you God I love my life and your many Blessing each day.
I hope you all are having a great spring and a wonderful summer full of love laughter and many blessings.

Chicks & Chickens
Over the weekend the chicks had a moving day into their new home until they are big enough to go in with the big chickens. They spent the night in their new coop and the next day after I got the old pen wire repaired and then they had their real first whole day outside and meet their neighbors the big girls and the boys. No one really knew what to think of each other. For now as they grow everyone is safe and in about 3 to 4 months they will have gotten use to each other and then a piece of wire can be removed so everyone can go in together. It will be so good to have 8 new girls to lay eggs all winter.
We hope everyone has a scratching good day !!

Chicks part 2
The chicks are growing so fast they had to get moved in to my feed shed and a bigger brooder. I think I was up and down all night going out to check on them their first night. And to make shore the heat lamp was keeping them warm enough. They are loving the extra room in their new brooder and as soon as they feather out a bit more, we can have a whole day out in the yard together sitting in the sun. I think they would enjoy playing in the garden with me. :-)

Chicks
I didn't think I was going to have or do chicks this year. But on the way to work a couple weeks ago T. said he thought I mite need more chickens and that I should get 6 to 8 chicks so I would have eggs this winter. So I am hand raising 8 chicks for the first time, now that I have no broody hen to do it. The hens I had as broodies last year went back to their mom a few months ago because she was going to get new chicks and need the girls to raise them. We both got fooled no broody hen for ether 1 of us. So we both will be hand raising our chicks. Old saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" comes to mind for us both this time because we need a broody hen. :-) So there are 8 baby chicks in my dining room and I am loving it so far.
I will update photos of the girls as they get older. I am thinking they were a few days old when I got them. They are Red Sex Links and I got them from our local Tractor Supply Company.
